The Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum is located at Claude Moore Park in Sterling, VA. It’s a small museum full of fun and educational hands-on farm exhibits for kids to explore. There is also a separate section of the museum where you’ll be able to walk around and view artifacts related to farm life, specifically in Loudoun County.
In the hands-on section of the museum, you’ll find a realistically reconstructed General Store and Post Office for kids to explore. In it, they’ll be able to grab a shopping basket and shop for goods such as meats, cheeses and fruits and vegetables. After that, they can head to the meat scale and then to the cash register.
Outside of the General Store, there’s an equestrienne area where kids can ride horses and comb their manes. There are also a few small tractors that toddlers can take for a spin around the exploratory section of the museum.
If that isn’t enough for your little one, they’ll love Milkie the cow! Milkie, the life-like cow is located inside her barn, and she can actually be milked. Also inside Milkie’s barn is a chicken coop filled with wooden eggs for children to gather and haul around in small wheelbarrows.
After all this fun, please do take a stroll through their museum where you’ll learn what farm and agricultural life was like for generations of Loudoun County residents. You’ll also be able to view some artifacts and tools that American Indians in Loudoun County used.
This is a must visit museum and a great place to visit year-round no matter the weather. The whole family will love it!
